No two spirals are the same. That’s the point.
The Spiral Earth is a heavyweight pure cotton oversized tee, hand-dyed using a combination of shǔliàng gambiered technique and traditional tie-dye folding — the fabric is bound, twisted, and spiral-knotted before dyeing, so the plant pigments and mineral compounds penetrate the cloth in radiating patterns that no machine can replicate. The result is a garment that is simultaneously ancient in technique and completely contemporary in feel.
Wear it with everything. It goes with everything.
🧵 Craft & Construction
- 🌊 Color: Spiral Earth — deep olive-brown, steel-grey, and charcoal-black in a radiating spiral pattern; each tee carries its own unrepeatable dye character; the spiral centre, arm placement, and tonal distribution vary between pieces
- 🪢 Fabric: Heavyweight pure cotton jersey — dense, substantial hand; clean matte surface; drapes with weight; softens beautifully with repeated washing while retaining structure
- 🌿 Dye: Shǔliàng gambiered dye + spiral tie-dye (薯莨染手工扎染) — the fabric is tightly bound in a spiral knot before dyeing; shǔliàng plant extract and mineral compounds are applied, penetrating the cloth in gradients that follow the folds and resist lines; the result is a surface of extraordinary depth — dark veins, light-catching silver-grey zones, warm olive pockets — all occurring naturally from the binding geometry and the chemistry of the dye
- 🪡 Collar: Clean round crew neck — ribbed collar band; lies flat; no visible seam at front; sits naturally at collarbone
- 📐 Silhouette: Oversized relaxed fit — dropped shoulders; wide through chest and body; hits at hip; designed to be worn untucked as a standalone piece or over a long-sleeve shirt
- ✂️ Sleeves: Short sleeves with dropped shoulder seam — wide opening; sits at mid-upper arm; clean hemmed edge
- 🍂 Hem: Straight hem — even front and back; sits at hip; can be tucked for a cropped proportion or worn long
- ✨ Surface: Spiral tie-dye pattern with natural resist lines and tonal gradients — the crinkle and surface variation are inherent to the hand-dyeing process; the pattern is three-dimensional, shifting in different light; no two tees are identical
- 🌿 Season: All-season — heavyweight cotton wears comfortably through spring, summer, and fall; layers under open shirts or jackets in cooler weather
✨ “Earth pigments. Human hands. One spiral at a time.” — NatureNoble. Spiral tie-dye is one of the oldest resist-dyeing techniques in the world, found independently across cultures from West Africa to Japan to the Americas. Applied here with shǔliàng plant-mineral gambiered dye — one of China’s oldest textile traditions — the result is a surface of geological complexity: dark where the dye penetrated fully, silver-grey where it was resisted by the bound cloth, warm olive where the tannins settled at the fold lines. Each tee is bound, dyed, and finished by hand. Each one is unrepeatable.
